A Fully Dynamic Algorithm for the Recognition of P4-Sparse Graphs

چکیده
In this paper, we solve the dynamic recognition problem for the class of P4-sparse graphs: the objective is to handle edge/vertex additions and deletions, to recognizeif each such modification yields a P4-sparse graph, and if yes, to update a representationof the graph. Our approach relies on maintaining the modular decomposition tree of thegraph, which we use for solving the recognition problem. We establish properties for eachmodification to yield a P4-sparse graph and obtain a fully dynamic recognition algorithmwhich handles edge modifications in O(1) time and vertex modifications in O(d) time for avertex of degree d. Thus, our algorithm implies an optimal edges-only dynamic algorithmand a new optimal incremental algorithm for P4-sparse graphs. Moreover, by maintainingthe children of each node of the modular decomposition tree in a binomial heap, we canhandle vertex deletions in O(logn) time, at the expense of needing O(logn) time for eachedge modification and O(d log n) time for the addition of a vertex adjacent to d vertices.

A Fast Parallel Algorithm to Recognize P4-sparse Graphs
A number of problems in computational semantics, group-based collaboration, automated theorem proving, networking, scheduling, and cluster analysis suggested the study of graphs featuring certain \local density" characteristics. Typically, the notion of local density is equated with the absence of chordless paths of length three or more. Recently, a new metric for local density has been propose...
متن کاملSplit-Perfect Graphs: Characterizations and Algorithmic Use
Two graphs G and H with the same vertex set V are P4-isomorphic if every four vertices {a, b, c, d} ⊆ V induce a chordless path (denoted by P4) in G if and only if they induce a P4 in H. We call a graph split-perfect if it is P4-isomorphic to a split graph (i.e., a graph being partitionable into a clique and a stable set). This paper characterizes the new class of split-perfect graphs using the...
متن کاملFace Recognition in Thermal Images based on Sparse Classifier
Despite recent advances in face recognition systems, they suffer from serious problems because of the extensive types of changes in human face (changes like light, glasses, head tilt, different emotional modes). Each one of these factors can significantly reduce the face recognition accuracy. Several methods have been proposed by researchers to overcome these problems. Nonetheless, in recent ye...
متن کاملVoice-based Age and Gender Recognition using Training Generative Sparse Model
Abstract: Gender recognition and age detection are important problems in telephone speech processing to investigate the identity of an individual using voice characteristics. In this paper a new gender and age recognition system is introduced based on generative incoherent models learned using sparse non-negative matrix factorization and atom correction post-processing method. Similar to genera...
متن کاملOn Some Cograph Extensions and Their Algorithms
This paper reviews some classes of graphs related to cographs. The characterization of cographs by which there is no induced path on three edges (P4) is relaxed in various ways. Considered are classes of graphs that are uniquely representable by trees. Three such classes studied here are: P4-reducible, P4-sparse and P4-extendible graphs. In addition, we show that the class of P4-lite graphs has...
